EATING MY WAY THOUGH ITALY
May 2019 Newsletter
A few days late this month (well a week really!) but I"m pretty thankful I'm getting this newsletter out at all. As I write this I'm about 2/3 through my book tour for The Italian Table. I've already been to Chicago, DC, Little Rock, St. Louis, LA, San Francisco and Seattle, Tonight I'm taking the red eye to Boston and then it's off to New York before I finally get back home. And if you're just tired reading all of these places, I'm actually doing ok. While I am getting a bit home sick for Rome and Umbria, I have to say that I'm having a blast. I've not only gotten to meet a lot of the people who read books and follow along on Instagram etc, I've also gotten the chance to hang out with family and friends.
My rules for book tours have been fine tuned over the years. Always stay in someplace nice. Don't try to over do it. And make sure to leave time for rest and fun. I was also really lucky this time around since my daughter Emma came to join me in LA and SF, so that was an extra added treat!
People always ask if these tours are stressful. My answer is vodka. (Just kidding. Kind of). But seriously, anything you repeat enough gets easier as you do it. The first time I was ever on TV was incredibly stressful. Now? No problemo. I used to be frantic about how I looked (make up! hair!) Now I just go with the flow and realize I'm never going to be as tall or made up as the anchors.
Also I wanted to give a big thanks to both Gustiamo for providing olives along the way at many of my book signings, and to Parmigiano Reggiano for providing MASSIVE hunks of cheese. Love you both!!
What's New
While I'm off galavanting across the states, Sophie is holding down the fort in Rome, giving day tours and getting ready for our upcoming Week in Umbria and Puglia Tours. (she's in charge of logistics to get everyone from point a to point b). FYI: We;ve had a few last minute cancellations for the July and Fall tours and so have a few openings:
Creative Retreat with Elizabeth Gilbert in Puglia 1 spot left
Week in Umbria Sept 1 spot left
Week in Rome 3 spots left
Send me an email if you like more information. Just let me know which tour you are interested in.
Our Weeks in 2020 are filling up too, especially since I've been meeting so many people along the book tour. There has been a HUGE request for a trip to Sicily, so look out for that in 2021. In the meantime, let me know if you'd like information and details for our weeks in Rome, Umbria or Puglia in 2020.
As always, if you're coming to Rome, Sophie is available for day tours around the city.
What I'm Watching
What I'm watching? In short (pun intended) me. Here are some of the clips of me on TV. I just finished my last one here in Seattle! One of the better investments I made was in snazzy aprons from this place.
Hallmark's Home & Family
Show Me St. Louis
KTLA Los Angeles
Channel 7 Daybreak in Little Rock
Great Day Washington
WGN Morning News Chicago
What I'm Eating
OMG I feel so full! This American eating thing is getting to me. Walking around with cup of coffee in my hand? I never thought I'd be one of those people, but I am. Also? My main source of exercise is walking through airports and lifting my carrry on into the over head bin (just kidding. I always get some other stronger person to do that for me)
Here follows, as much as I can remember, the highlights of some of the places where I've eaten along the way. Sorry there is no description but....I just don't have a minute! Know that I only inlcuded the best places I ate!
