Here’s Sophie to tell you more about it:
If you’ve been to Italy, you might have noticed that each region feels like a completely different country: they have a unique history, cultural tradition, language, and (of course) recipes. Even after a lifetime here, I’m still amazed by how different each region feels. I could be in Rome one morning, take a 30 min flight to Sardegna and feel like I’ve travelled to a whole different country. Because Sardinia, or Sardegna in Italian, is the second largest island in Italy, it has managed to always maintain its strong cultural identity and the feeling of it being completely separated from mainland Italy
For years tourists only really knew it for its stunning, crystal-clear waters, and visitors would only venture to the island for some summer beach time. But beyond its postcard-worthy coastline lies an island with a distinctive soul, shaped by centuries of traditions. With its own language (Sardu), unique recipes, rare ingredients, and a strong connection to music, dance, and crafts, Sardinia manages to leave an impression on anyone who visits.
Over the years, my love for Sardinia has grown as I’ve explored more of its hidden treasures, venturing beyond the usual tourist paths. Now, I’m excited to share these off-the-beaten-track treasures with you through a carefully crafted week-long journey designed to showcase the heart of Sardinian culture. We’ll explore both the central and southern parts of the island, diving deep into its culinary traditions while uncovering its rich history and local customs.
I hope you can join me for a week filled with authentic flavors, off-the-beaten-track experiences, and a genuine taste of Sardinian life. By the end of our journey, you’ll not only gain a deeper understanding of this island, but also a love for the people and their traditions.

The Culture of Food in Sardinia with Sophie Minchilli
May 10–16, 2026
Spring is a beautiful time to visit Sardinia. The hills are filled with wildflowers and balmy temperatures mean being outside in nature is a joy. Sophie will be joined by her friend and colleague Angelo to guide you on this six-day feast through Sardinia. You’ll be based in Oliena, in the island’s mountainous center, and in Cagliari, its vibrant seaside capital.
Highlights of the trip include:
Welcome drinks and dinner at your hotel
Lunch in a shepherd’s hut
Cheese-making at a goat farm
Visit to a goldsmith’s workshop
Lunch at a traditional farm restaurant
Cooking demonstrations featuring Sardinian bread, pasta, and sweets
