As Sophie heads off to lead a tour in Puglia this week, I’ve been sort of fixated on the dinner she will be having with the group on Sunday night. During all of our tours we often have a welcome dinner that is either in a private home or at least feels like it. In Lecce our dinner is in a cozy private space that belongs to our favorite restaurant. So it’s kind of like eating in a private home, but with the great cooking of one of the best restaurants in town.
One of the things I love about home cooking (and miss in restaurants) is family style dining. I realize not everyone has the same appetite as I do (!) and so maybe doesn’t want a huge portion of pasta (or burrata, or whatever) plopped down in front of them. That’s why we always try to arrange meals where people can just help themselves. You know, like at home!
This particular menu, which always starts out our tours in Lecce, lends itself perfectly to making at home. Nothing is overly fussy so it’s perfect for a dinner party with friends. Especially if you are missing out on the dinner on Sunday in Puglia with Sophie, like I am.
