Happy Holidays from Rome

EATING MY WAY THOUGH ITALY
Happy Holidays 2018
No, I’m not writing from a snowy Rome. This photo is from 2012, when the city was blanketed under a covering of white. To say it was magical is an understatement. I knew, from the first moment I woke up that morning, that it had snowed. I could feel it in my bones: that amazing sensation that life as we know it is suspended. A snow day. I know a lot of you live in climes where snow can get a bit annoying after a while, but here in Rome, where snows like this come about every 15 years or so, it’s still a thing of wonder. And one that brings me back to every childhood hope of a white Christmas.
This year I can’t really complain. The weather is actually pretty great, not too cold, but enough of a nip in the air to make the twinkling lights in our neighborhood - and throughout the city - seem extra festive. I’ve baked cookies, hosted a holiday party and am now currently planning menus for the days we’ll spend in Bari with Domenico’s family. Fish on the 24th, and tortellini in brodo for Christmas.
But mostly I’m just writing this quick note to you to say a huge thank you. I’m always astounded by the wave of love and support I get from you, whether it’s in response to this newsletter or on social media. An even bigger grazie for buying my books!! It was fantastic meeting so many of you for last year’s book tour and I hope to meet up with even more of you this coming spring for the next one.
Sophie and I wish you Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays all the best for 2019 for you and your family and friends. May it be filled with love and laughter, and of course food and fun. (and cocktails too if I’m being completely honest).
