I’m heading to northern Italy tomorrow! Wow, Sophie looks just like you ( beautiful)! I’m planning to have an aperol spritz first thing, and will definitely be looking for pistachio cake and marzipan. I recently discovered pistachio butter, which I love!

Did you know that the characteristic flavor of marzipan comes not from almonds but from apricot kernels or other nuts? Think about how almonds taste--not like marzipan.

Perhaps that is true in other countries, but in Sicily I can assure you that the flavor does in fact come from almonds, including bitter almonds which give it its distinctive flavor.
