How does one order a vermouth on the rocks in Italian?

It's not easy....at least for the good stuff. Most bars refer to it by the most common brand name, Martini (short for Martini e Rosso). But if possible, ask for 'vermut con ghiaccio' and see what they have. Once you ask for 'un vermut' you'll be asked if you want red or white, sweet or dry. Start trying and see what you like!

Thanks for your vermouth recommendations! I was able to find Cocchi Red and White in Oakland, CA, and it's several cuts above Martini and Rossi. Vermouth and soda has become my go-to Zoom drink. Looking forward to signing up for a class in at a future safe date.
