Thank you for the Rome dining suggestions. We used to live there and return quite often. We typically ate out on our own neighborhood too. When we return in early June, I’ll try your suggestions. In the meantime, yes to Instagram and a big NO to TikTok. Please reconsider.

Curious why you think I should reconsider using TikTok? I can understand if you don't want to use it, but why don't you want me to use it? Sincerely curious.

As one of the no TikTok folks I hope you will keep up with IG. You are one of my ‘favourites’ so I get all of your (and Sophie’s) content. I appreciate the need for social media users with businesses to reach as wide an audience as possible. To be very frank my reason to discontinue using TikTok is a mistrust of the entity regarding my personal information. I am careful with other social media too but at least there is a bit more transparency from the businesses (ie Meta). None are perfect of course.

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond. It really does help me to know what people are thinking about all this stuff. I obviously have a very specific view point.

I guess you trust Meta's 'transparency' more than I do. I wonder if they are transparent about their lobbying against other big media companies who threaten their bottom line. Like, um, TikTok?

Agree that transparency is lacking across all social media sites. But given TikTok’s ownership and location of ownership, my trust level for transparency and safety of my data with them is basically zero.

I'm curious, why a big no to TikTok? Have you used it already and don't like it?

Not sure that I want my response posted for all others to see. I am not a fan of social media in general, especially Facebook or Twitter. Although I understand social media is an important means of communication for certain people and businesses, I personally rarely post. I follow certain people on Instagram that share information of interest to me, especially regarding Italy and travel. Like one of your other readers, I personally do not trust TikTok and in the general vulnerability of posting information on any social media platform. My specific comment to you may have been somewhat misleading. I started "following" you through your books and then on Instagram. Selfishly, I don't want to miss some of the information you share if your Instagram posting is limited in favor of TikTok. That's all. It is very difficult to keep up with information shared on multiple platforms - for readers as well as the influencers/providers. You are certainly free to communicate what you choose to on any platform. And I will continue to follow those I want to on the platforms that I am most comfortable with. Kind regards.

Totally understand! It's a wild world out there, both in terms of personal information as well as trying to keep up. It's good to have this feedback, thank you so much. Also, it very much helps me decide what to share here on the newsletter. For instance, I suspect a lot of readers are like you, and don't see my videos on TikTok. That makes me think I should be posting more of them here! ;)

Love your newsletter, Elizabeth. Hope to do one or more of your tours one day. Meanwhile I read and absorb everything about Italy, my love.Australia can feel a long way away at times. Love especially food, history of food, market tours and produce, cooking and restaurant reviews. Oh and love seeing/reading about your evening cocktails! (As well as art, history and culture obviously). I have been to various parts of Italy many times but not for a few years now but did learn Italian on DUOLINGO everyday for 16months after first lockdown in 2020. Will also join a conversation class when I retire (not any time soon!). Won’t be scrubbing sheet pans, and definitely won’t be reading/watching in TikTok.

Cheers! 🍸🇦🇺

Happy New Year! Appreciate the list of places to eat in Rome as I always feel overwhelmed. Hoping to be there in May, though it might be during your Umbria tour. :-/ After that will be in Abruzzo for awhile, so maybe we can get in a visit at some point. xx

Very enjoyable read, as always. I really hope I can make it back to Italy in 2024. We'll see.

Keep posting on tik tok! Love your videos, that’s how I ended up here at your newsletter. I think most people have given up on being worried about what big tech is doing with our data. Life is too short. See you on TT

Dear Elizabeth, I'm a happy reader of your news letter. Spending quite some weeks per year in the hills around Orvieto, in a house that your husband carefully renovated, would you have any restaurant recommandations to share in Umbria, preferably not too far from Orvieto/Ficulle? Many thanks, Steven

I recently found your account via Tiktok and love your content there! It feels like a hug watching your day in the life and countless espressos! It’s hugely inspirational how you enjoy food, life and family. I understand the concerns some have with tiktok, but, to be honest it’s where my generation lives and the possible reach for creators is huge! Wishing you an amazing 2023 and looking forward to reading more.

Curious why you don't like TikTok? Unfortunately for me Instagram has changed in such a way that no one really sees what I post anymore, unless I pay to promote things. So when I post on Instagram, it just goes into the big void. While on TikTok I am able to reach a much larger (and diverse) audience.
