If you haven’t been to Poseidon Spa Park in Italy. Do go! It’s a life changing experience. My son was stationed at the Naval Base in Naples for 3 years. We had an apartment .. I can no longer breathe in the USA without Italy, its museums, its culture, its food, its people.
I enjoy following you on Instagram and reading your beautiful writings. Hoping to join a trip or two in the future. You love all the things I do. Except I m stuck in Ct, for now.
Season 1 of the 3 Body Problem does a poor job of setting up the story. Read the books between now and Season 2. And I wish I were awash in artichokes.
Think we have similar taste in books. I couldn’t do the Grocery Store and the Hunter seems slow. I post my reads on bibliobetsy on Instagram.(I’m a former librarian). Our favorite movie is Flirting with Disaster. All-star cast and hilarious.
We just finished The Gentlemen and loved it. Perfectly cast. Quirky, surprising, and lots of dry humor. Hopefully Netflix will give the go ahead for a second season. My personal favorite has been the 3 seasons of Lupin. Check it out.
Nice to see Sarah Leah Chase's carbonara deviled egg recipe. She lived near us on Cape Cod (before we moved to the Boston area), and our sons were in school together years ago. Her Nantucket Open House cookbook is a classic, and she also co-authored the original Silver Palate cookbook.
I'm going to see if I can find some fava beans to make the risotto alla vignarola. Our growing season is way behind yours--we had sleet and a bit of snow yesterday.
If you’ve never seen Breaking Away, I recommend it very much. If you’ve seen it, then watch it again. It has an Italian twist as well. (I agree with the rec of The Birdcage above. Nathan Lane and Agador Spartacus. So good.
What about The Birdcage? With Robin Williams, if I’m not mistaken… I honestly thought that a re-make, especially a Hollywood re-make, of the incomparable French film _La Cage aux Folles_, was, well, not to put too fine a point on it, a folly. But it was really well done. Please don’t tell me that it’s dated; I’ll be crushed. The filmmakers allowed the premise to be completely over the top — as opposed to the acting — and to keep it as ‘restrained farce’. Dianne Wiest and Gene Hackman perfectly play their parts. When I saw the French original, one knew who in the audience spoke French (pockets of laughter, followed by roars from the English-speaking audience, reading the subtitles). Oops! I had to check how to spell ‘Wiest’ and it’s 1996! Oh, well, revisit the 90’s; and the French one is definitely from the 70’s.
So, um, 1980’s: Rainman, Empire of the Sun (this was great!), A Room with a View, Amadeus, Dangerous Liaisons (the one with Malkovitch and Close), Sophie’s Choice, Moonstruck (I saw that again just recently and it had faired well), 9 to 5 (always made me laugh).

Hope to see you one of these days in Italy!

In fact I'm very tempted by the books and they are currently on my 'to read' list.

We are saving the last episode of The Gentlemen for tonight. Loved Season 1 of Lupin, then kind of forgot about it. Thanks for reminding me!

The season here is about 6 weeks earlier than usual.

I loved Breaking Away! (and if I remember correctly, didn't Barry Manilow write the title song?). Also Birdcage: I had forgotten about that one!
I enjoyed this 😊
I have started my own travel substack too. Please do check it out 🥰🍀
